9-11's Heart Beats On

I am the epitome of nostalgia. I love holidays, traditions, and everything that has "meaning". On 9-11 we proudly had our flag out in our front yard and I had my girls wear red-white-blue. It was amazing to me how many people asked me why they were in those colors.

Seven years ago, 9-11 was a sad day for the United States. Our Liberty and Safety were questioned. It is one of those memorable days that if asked, most will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the terrible news of the Twin Towers being bombed by airplanes. I remember what I was doing that day. I spent the day teaching and watching the news clips over and over with my high school students and fellow teachers. Then at the end of the school day, I drove to the doctor's office, met Darren, and heard our baby's (Bethany) heartbeat for the very first time. Our first child was going to enter the world in a few months. What kind of world would she live in? What kind of life could we give her? What kind of parents would we be? All these questions entered my mind. If anything my experiences of the past seven years have taught me this: no matter the trials, challenges, changes, or sadness- Life Beats On!

K, so I would have been one of those people asking why your girls were dressed in red, white, and blue... How embarrassing! You are too good, and I LOVE that you get into all the holidays! I'm sure your girls love it! Where were all those flags at???

I would never have asked. I knew! I too, was at school but had to sneak off to the faculty room to keep updated. Your girls are sweethearts.

Tara,

I love your new family picture. You should use it for your Christmas cards. I know you well enough to know you are planning that already. Are you going to Disneyland? Your blog cut some of that off. When are we going to get together? I may have to give you your birthday present at Christmas. That would be way too sad.

Hi Tara,
I hadn't seen your latest post. I see you went over to Sandy City where they had the flags posted on 9/ll. I heard that they did that again this year on the news. Cute pictures of your girls. I miss you all, it helps to see updates--I want to reach in and give them a hug.
Love you all much,
Mom
